Nineteen summers of building resilient athletes, growing coaches, and creating a community that extends far beyond the pool.
"The pool doesn't care about excuses. Neither do we. What we care about is showing up — for your swimmers, for your team, and for the kid who just needed someone to believe in them first."
We exist because summer league swimming is one of the rare places where a kid can learn what they're made of — where the effort they put in directly determines what they get out, and where a great coach can change the trajectory of a young person's life.
We build coaches who understand that responsibility. Every person on this staff shows up not just to run practice, but to be someone their swimmers will remember long after they've aged out.
We lead with empathy. Every athlete, every family, every teammate deserves to feel seen and respected.
Clear, honest, and consistent. With athletes, with parents, and within our coaching staff.
We push for more — better times, better habits, better people. Comfort zones are where growth stops.
The team is bigger than any one swimmer or season. We invest in relationships that outlast the summer.
Every day is a chance to be better than yesterday — in the water and in everything else.
Times matter. Wins matter. But the person behind the swimmer matters more. We coach the whole kid — their confidence, their resilience, their ability to handle pressure and bounce back from disappointment. Those are the skills that follow them everywhere.
We don't lower the bar to protect feelings and we don't raise it without giving athletes the tools to reach it. High expectations paired with genuine support is the combination that produces growth — in swimming and in life.
Our coaches are held to the same standard we set for our athletes. Show up on time. Be prepared. Communicate clearly. Work hard. Treat people well. We can't ask swimmers to do what we're not willing to model ourselves.
The Brookside Hurricanes began in 2008 as a small neighborhood summer league team in Warrenton, Virginia — a handful of swimmers, a few volunteer coaches, and a shared belief that summer swimming could be something more than just a seasonal activity.
Over nineteen seasons the program has grown into one of the most consistent programs in the Prince William Swim League, developing over a thousand athletes and launching more than forty coaching careers. Many of our current coaches swam for the Hurricanes themselves — a cycle of growth that speaks to what the program has always been about.
The team name has stayed the same. The values have stayed the same. The commitment to building more than swimmers — that's never changed either.
